Прежде всего, рассмотрим, а как строится предложение в Past Perfect?
Had + III форма глагола
The Past Perfect Tense называют «предпрошедшим временем» или «прошедшее в прошедшем». Дело в том, что при повествовании в прошедшем времени одно действие может совершаться раньше или позже другого. И тут появляется такое понятие, как согласование времён. И, между прочим, тоже стало любопытно, что же автор ответит.
When the teacher came up you the pupil, he had already swallowed up the crib. – Когда учитель подошёл к ученику, тот уже проглотил шпаргалку.
Ученик проглотил шпаргалку раньше, чем подошёл к нему учитель.
Все обстоятельства, которые характерны для Present Perfect, так же используются и в Past Perfect. Кстати, какие они?
I spotted how he had just clapped his belly. – Я заметил, как он только что похлопал по животу.
Предлог by – к какому моменту совершится действие, относится к Past Perfect.
By the moment he had swallowed down the crib. – К этому моменту он проглотил шпаргалку.
By 7 o’clock the stomach had digested the crib. – К семи часам желудок переварил эту шпаргалку.
Предлоги after и before также характерны для Past Perfect.
Before he wrote the dictation, he had made a crib. After he had made a crib, he didn’t use it, indeed.
Если вспомнить предлоги и использование после них герундия (смотрите Unit 3), то можно избежать согласования времён.
Before writing the dictation, he made a crib. After making a crib, he didn’t use it, indeed.
Past Perfect Simple. Упражнения – I.
I. Past Simple or Past Perfect:
1. Everybody / to know that Dima / to go mad on sports.
2. By the beginning of the lesson the pupils / to stand in the row.
3. By his P. E. classes Dima / to prepare carefully.
4. When Dima / to hold his lesson, everybody / to be pleased.
5. When Dima / to talk riddles, Katya / to make sport on him.
6. After he girls / to nose out, the boys / to droop.
7. The girls / not to square the score, they / to win.
8. By the end of the class nobody / to splay their legs.
9. When Anya / to titivate before her little mirror, she / to hear “whoopee!”
10. After Katya / to guy Dima, he / not to take in bad part (обидеться).

II. Past Simple, Past Continuous or Past Perfect:

7. When Dima / to hold the lesson, his learners / to learn other meanings of usual words.
8. When they / to go home, they / to tell the parents about the day of self-government.
9. The boys / to upset a little, when they / not to square the score.
10. When the boys / to droop, the girls / to buoy the boys.
III. What is our favourite subject of conversation? What do we enjoy speaking about? About the weather, certainly! What mood have you got in such weather? What does the weather-forecast promise? Have you heard the weather-forecast? What weather is going to be? Между прочим, какая у нас любимая тема для разговора? О погоде, конечно! – про погоду зимой или про погоду осенью или про погоду весной на английском языке. А также описание погоды зимой для продвинутого уровня.
