Once the teacher on English gave a task to Vasya to learn by heart some irregular verbs. By heart! Not by rote! And Vasya conned them on and on: to thrust-thrust-thrust, to cast-cast-cast, to cost-cost-cost, to burst-burst-burst… The time dragged on and on… Who thought of these irregular verbs? To spread-spread-spread… — he conned on and on… Vasya could set-set-set his mind only on apples! Only apples could cast-cast-cast a spell on him! Vasya started yawning, winking and nodding.

And at last he went to his dreams… Magic, miracle, sparklets… spring… Vasya set-set-set an apple-tree… The apple-tree burst-burst-burst into the buds… Then the buds burst-burst-burst into the blossom and into the leaves. At last, the blossom burst-burst-burst into the apples… Reddish, yellowish, pinkish, greenish…

Of all colours! In autumn the apple-trees cast-cast-cast their apples… Apples are everywhere! In amazement, full of joy, Vasya couldn’t shut-shut-shut his mouth. He didn’t manage to cut-cut-cut the apples’ harvest and let-let-let the apples hit-hit-hit and hurt-hurt-hurt everybody’s head. And everybody set-set-set the newest important law: An apple a day keeps a doctor away!

Vasya thrust-thrust-thrust the apples into the buckets, baskets and even caskets! He put-put-put the apples on the table, on the shelves, into the wardrobes and even into the sink and into the vacuum-cleaner. The apples spread-spread-spread everywhere and cost-cost-cost very cheap. Vasya cut-cut-cut the apples into the compote, pies, into the salad and even into the cutlets and borshch…
