Пассивность в английском

What is Passive Voice? We use the Passive Voice when we care more about what happens to a person or thing than who does it.

Active: Pinocchio broke his nose in the battle. (We focus on Buratino.)

Passive: The nose was broken in the battle. (We focus on the nose. We might not even say who broke it.)

When to use Passive Voice in these tenses?

1. When the doer is unknown or unimportant:

The galosh was lost at the ball at 12 o’clock.

The leeches were eaten!

2. When we want to focus on the action or the object:

Snow White’s apple was poisoned by her request.

In more formal or objective statements (even in stories):

A wish change the pumpkin on the normal coach will be granted by the Fairy Godmother.

If the sentence indicates who performed the action, then the preposition by is used. If it is indicated by which the action is performed, then the preposition with is used.

The mouse with a broken tail was delivered by the ambulance.

Man-with-the-longest-beard was fed with American cockroaches.

III. Identify the Tense and put the verb in the correct form. Add by or with where necessary.
