Специальные вопросы задаются лишь к части предложения и начинаются с вопросительных слов. Не забывайте: после вопросительного слова — обязательно — следует соответствующий глагол, как и в общем вопросе. Special questions are asked only to the part of the sentence and start with the interrogative words. Don’t forget: after the interrogative word – it is obligatory — the proper verb follows as in the general question.

Вспомним их и добавим новые вопросы для полного списка. Let’s remember the interrogative words and add some new ones for the whole list.

Let’s learn how to ask special questions and to get to know where, when, why and so on the event occurs.

School is over at 2 o’clock. — Школа заканчивается в два часа.

Общий: Is school over at 2 o’clock? (when?) Специальный: When is school over?

The girls bob on the see-saw. — Девочки качаются на качелях.

Общий: Do the girls bob on the see-saw? (where?) Специальный: Where do the girls bob?

They giggle aloud. – Они громко хихикают.

Общий: Do they giggle aloud? (how?) Специальный: How do they giggle?

Maxim throws paper-balls. – Максим бросается бумажками.

Общий: Does Maxim throw paper-balls? (what?) Специальный: What does Maxim throw?

Вопросы “how many”, “how much”, “whose”, “what” (what — в значении «какой») всегда употребляются с именем существительным:

How many poems – сколько стихов Whose desk – чья парта

How much water – сколько воды What colour – какого цвета

Katya knows many different tongue-twisters. Общий: Does Katya know many different tongue-twisters? Специальный: How many tongue-twisters does Katya know?

We have got much joy at the lesson. Общий: Have you got much joy at the lesson? Специальный: How much joy have you got at the lesson?

Tortoise Tortilla became a member of the club of golden keys. 5. Winnie-the-Poor has got a desire to fly on Carlson because the balloons can’t carry him anymore. 6. Cinderella is fond of eating leeches at the ball. 7. Pechkin brought a letter from Snow White to Koschey-the-deathless. 8. Prince became hoarse and deaf when he tried to wake up Cinderella. 9. Pinocchio dived into the lake and sank in the last story. 10. Step-Mother is hying to wash the messy house before Cinderella comes from the ball.
